Wrastling Rappers

Flava in ya ears... look for the homie MQ's ups toward the end (if you make it that long).

Also, we're appending this post to include this clip of a long-forgotten WCW wraster from the mid Nineties who went by the name of Jimmy Graffiti and whose persona was that of a graffiti scrawling Vandal. Yeah, we're as surprised as you that he's no longer around.

American Culture

Red flags are going up (or is it off?) all day, errday so we have finally decided to reveal our plans for the establishment of a museum/zoo that will archive and honor all of the scariest, and most epically heartbreaking exports and by-products of Capitalist America. Our tentative plan is to be breaking ground as early as 2015 next door to the fabled Doomsday Vault in Norway and this innocent lil' soldier has been invited to curate the Cinnabon Annex. Hope to see everyone there!

New Shows...

Be sure to get to Jersey Joe's newest installation if you're in Chicago later this week... looks to be ridiculous.

Also, at the beginning of next month don't miss the group show "Catalyst" at FIFTY24 in San Francisco curated by Brett Aronson, who put together our Will Rise exhibit earlier this year. The lineup looks to be retarded... in a good way, not the Tropic Thunder kind.

FIFTY24SF Gallery Proudly Presents the Group Show “Catalyst”
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 7 – 9:30 p.m.

“Catalyst” is a group exhibition that will include eight of today's most prominent visual artists from the abrasive music community.

The exhibit will bring together an underground community of artists in which aural and visual expressions converge. Artwork on display will comprise of a wide source of media, including new two-dimensional paintings, drawings, video installations, screen prints as well as an installation of seminal works from each of the artists’ extensive catalogues.

Artists Included: Aaron Turner, Josh Graham, Seldon Hunt, Stephen Kasner,
Aaron Horkey, Florian Bertmer, Justin Bartlett and Dwid Hellion.

The “Catalyst” group show will be on display at FIFTY24SF Gallery September 4 – 25, 2008.

And finally those that slept on the opening a few weeks back still have time to check Hense and Shie's exhibit runnin' through the end of the month at the North Highland Inn in Atlanta... for those who can't make it peep some of the work here.

Fatal Flying Guillotine

Digital video montage dealing with guillotine executions in the early part of the 20th century; most notably that of Eugene Weidmann in 1939. The enthusiasm of the crowd, as well as the fact that the event was filmed from an apartment window, became major factors in the French governments decision to ban public executions. As a result, the Weidmann execution was the last public guillotining in France before the death penalty was finally abolished in 1981. Musical setting is the viola solo "Elegie" by Igor Stravinsky.

Animal Farm

The CIA, circa 1954, obtained the film rights to "Animal Farm" from Orwell's widow, Sonia, after his death and covertly funded this production as anti-Communist propaganda. Some sources assert that the ending of the story was altered by the CIA (in the book, the pigs and humans join forces) to press home their message, but it is equally possible that the more upbeat ending of the movie was an artistic decision, to give the film more audience appeal.
